Moss Jewellery/GREM Green Jem (2011)
Created by Katherine Lauriault
CONCEPTUAL DESIGN
School project: CART-351

Made from moss and metal. I planted a tiny quantity worth of moss and let it grow inside, for a month. I then carved it to fit inside metal pieces that I had recuperated. Being a woman, I appreciate beauty and I love to be surrounded by beautiful things. The idea of making the plant appear to be a hand crafted stone evolved from my love of jewellery. This project had to do with plants and nature and combining it with already-fabricated objects. The person wearing my jewellery is reminded of environmental issues and the need to prioritise green living. One must care for “Grem” jewellery, as it is bound to die without its owner’s meticulous care (like our Eco-system). Each piece is unique and will also constantly evolve and grow.
